Isaac Knapper

In 1979, Isaac Knapper, only 17-years-old, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in Orleans Parish for a crime he did not commit.

Years later, a fellow prisoner unearthed a withheld police report in Mr. Knapper's case that revealed that the murder weapon had been found in the possession of three armed robbers with whom Mr. Knapper had no connection. The report also noted that the prosecution's primary witness had given two different accounts of the murder.

New Orleans criminal defense lawyer, Laurie White, took Mr. Knapper’s case and had his conviction reversed on the basis of the withheld evidence that showed his innocence. He was released in 1991 after he had been in prison for 12 years.
