OPPORTUNITIES

Innocence Project New Orleans welcomes applications from law students and undergraduates from the U.S.A. and abroad. The deadline for summer 2008 internship applications is February 29, 2008. We will interview applicants and make offers in March. Applications may be considered and a decision made prior to March if the applicant has special circumstances requiring an exception. IPNO only takes interns who can work a full time, ten week summer. Applications should consist of a resume (including 2-3 references), a non-legal writing sample if possible and a cover letter explaining your interest in working with IPNO. Applications may be submitted by mail or email to Carolyn Matthews (carolynm@ip-no.org). If you wish for your application to be considered early, please inform IPNO as soon as possible and explain why you need early consideration.

For year-round or semester-long internships or externships, please send the same materials as above to: carolynm@ip-no.org with "school year internship" in the subject line and be sure to provide the dates for which you would like to complete an internship and the number of hours per week you would like to work. Tulane, Loyola, Southern, LSU, Mississippi College of Law and University of Mississippi Law School students are encouraged to enquire with their schools about externships for credit.

While IPNO provides legal representation to prisoners, a large part of any internship will involve investigative work on individual cases. Both law students and undergraduate interns should expect to spend a significant portion of their time at IPNO doing case investigation.

Co-Counsel

IPNO's case successes would not be possible without the countless hours put in by pro bono co-counsel. If you are a lawyer and you or your firm would like to co-counsel a case with IPNO, please send an e-mail explaining your interest to emily@ip-no.org.

Voluntary Work

We get many offers of voluntary help and we have a very limited capacity to accommodate volunteers: the demands of our casework mean that we are generally looking for people with specific skills. If you are interested in giving some of your time to IPNO, please send an e-mail to carolynm@ip-no.org.
